Role of Minister of Religion (Imam)

The Minister of Religion (Imam) is responsible for providing religious leadership, spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and religious education to the congregation and wider community of Jamia Masjid Ahl-e-Hadith, Halifax. The role is central to the delivery of the mosque’s religious, charitable, educational, and community objectives.

We are looking for a an experienced Imam.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leading the five daily congregational prayers and other acts of worship.
  • Leading Jummah (Friday) prayers and delivering Khutbahs (sermons).
  • Teaching the Holy Qur’an, Hadith, Aqeedah, Islamic Studies, and Arabic to children, young people, and adults.
  • Delivering Hifdh (Qur’an memorisation) programmes and supporting students in their religious education.
  • Conducting religious ceremonies, including Nikah (marriage) and Janazah (funeral) services.
  • Providing pastoral care, religious guidance, counselling, and emotional support to individuals and families.
  • Visiting and supporting sick, elderly, vulnerable, and bereaved members of the community.
  • Supporting converts to Islam and individuals seeking religious guidance.
  • Leading Dawah (religious outreach) and community engagement activities.
  • Promoting community cohesion, spiritual development, and moral wellbeing.
  • Supervising and supporting Male and Female Madarsa Teachers.
  • Supporting youth development, mentoring programmes, and volunteer-led activities.
  • Ensuring that all religious teachings, services, and activities are delivered in accordance with the beliefs and practices of the Ahl-e-Hadith tradition.
  • Working closely with the Trustees to support the religious, educational, and charitable objectives of the ASPIRE Trust
Salary
  • Can be negotiated for the right candidate.
Educational Requirements
  • Degree in Islamic Studies from a Reconginsed Islamic University ( desirable)
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must have relevant Islamic Studies / Teaching qualification
  • Must hold relevant qualification for Quran / Tajweed
  • A Hafiz of Quran would be preferred.
